Before you set out on an adventure along the 29km long Lysebotn Road, it is important to understand that this route should be enjoyed at a safe, slow pace. The road includes 27 hairpin corners and the road is fairly narrow so, if you are considering a motorhome, RV, or campervan rental you will need to be well rested and focused all the way. There are a number of places to stop along the way and take in the views so, drivers, keep your eyes on the road when behind the wheel and make the most of as many breaks as you can along the way.

Top attractions

The main tourist activity here is the drive itself and admiring the spectacular views along the way. If you are travelling by RV from Oslo or Grimstad, you can really make the most of every stop by enjoying a freshly prepared light meal and beverage before you continue along this scenic drive. Your drive first takes you through a 1,100 meter tunnel before making your ascent. When you reach the top, you can enjoy a meal at the restaurant and perhaps even a walk to Kjerag.

There are also cruises and express boat rides that transport people between Lysebotn and Skagenkaien, Lauvvik and Forsand. These boat trips take you below the world famous Preacher’s Pulpit, or Preikestolen as it is known locally. It is an amazing cliff face that reaches a height of 06 meters. It’s no wonder thousands of tourists from all over the world come to this very spot.

The road will take you all the way from Lysebotn in the Lysefjord to Sirdal so do be sure to enjoy the purity of nature in these parts and the fresh air.

Sirdal and Lysebotn

When you begin in Lysebotn, you may wish to enjoy some gentle strolling around or perhaps you’re looking for something a bit more thrilling. It is a base jumping access point for Preikestolen and Kjerag. Lysebotn has its own campground and the 1961 Lyse Chapel also attracts many visitors. There are a number of hiking trails and you can even visit the massive flume responsible for providing power to this area.

Once in Sirdal, you can venture as far as you like to reach such attractions as the Sirdal Mountain Museum, the SVR Conservation Area or the Dorgefoss Waterfall where you can also enjoy some time in the picnic area.

If you plan your trip just right, you will be in town for the annual Sirdal Sheep Fair. Almost 5,000 sheep walk down the valley’s main road. You can also visit the market and enjoy the local food, music and pick up some traditional crafts.
