Main Motorhome Rental Companies in Bristol

This is the best place to begin your journey. Hiring the perfect vehicle for you, your loved one, friends, family and everything in between. We know this can be a daunting task, what with all that stuff about insurance, vehicle excess and suchlike, where does one begin? It’s simple, you check out the fleet of vehicles supplied by two tried and tested companies that have a proven track record of excellence.

They’ll always have your interests at heart because they know it makes for better business and, between them, McRent and Anywhere Campers have the ultimate range of campervans, motorhomes and RV’s made for the exacting requirements of you and your crew. And along the way we’ll explain the difference between a campervan or an RV, a Class A or Class C, it’s all below, everything you need to become a motorhome-renting guru!

McRent Motorhome Rental, Britol, United Kingdom

McRent UK

McRent’s fleet cleverly combines the venerable with the modern to strive for motorhome perfection. The former comes in the established form of Dethleffs, one of Europe’s oldest motorhomes manufacturers, dating back to 1931, when Arist Dethleffs created an RV to take his family on business trips.

Sunlight, on the other hand, are one of Europe’s youngest motorhome companies, barely ten years old, they are now Germany’s number one motorhome brand. Both companies now trade under the banner of the Erwin Hymer Group, one of the biggest motorhome and caravan manufacturer in the world. Enough said, really.

McRent RV Rental Vehicles include:

As you’d expect by the introduction, McRent’s fleet of motorhomes is extensive. It doesn’t matter whether you’re travelling alone, as a couple, or in a various combination of groups, friends, family or strangers, McRent has the perfect motorhome virtually tailor-made for your needs and, of course, your budget.

The fleet has been divided (under their terminology) into five main categories: van, campervan, semi-integrated, fully-integrated and overcabs. Don’t worry if this sounds complicated, on the contrary, it simply means more choice for you and your crew, but it’d be remiss if we didn’t break it down for you.

Poptop Camper

Everyone knows what these are, but forget those creaky deck-chair lids atop an old clapped-out camper, McRent has taken the poptop in the 21st century with their Urban Luxury campervan. Essentially this is a flipped van (Class B by any other name) packed with everything you need for as many as four of you. Ingenious.

Campervan Hire

The Urban Plus is also a Class B campervan, but it’s taken the concept to new levels of campervan hire comfort. Designed for two of you -and if you don’t mind sharing space in that double bed, a small child- this handsome craft even has space for a bathroom.

Motorhome Rental

Also known as Class C motorhomes, this is usually a marriage of contained living quarters attached to a cab/chassis and the class most of us would identify as a typical motorhome, especially the traditional cabover -more on that shortly.

The advantage of Class C motorhomes is their flexibility. For example, The Family Plus and Family Comfort sleep as many as 6 but the living quarters of the Family Comfort are more spacious, simply because it’s possible to attach an endless variety of similar-sized living quarters to the same donor cab/chassis, so manufacturers don’t have to redesign the whole vehicle from scratch.

Lately, the Class C category has seen a new contender in the sleek form of the Low-Profile Motorhome. McRent has jumped on this trend by presenting four such models, the Compact Plus and Comfort Standard both sleep 2 with the Family Standard and Comfort Plus sleeping 4.

However, the classic Coachbuilt/Cab Over Motorhome (such as the Family Plus and Comfort cited above) will always have the advantage of extra sleeping quarters over the cab. They may not look so pretty but they’re certainly more efficient; the classic cabover story is far from over just yet.

RV Rental – Class A

Last and by no means least, this is the class many of us aspire to. Designed and built from the ground up as mobile homes, the Compact Luxury and Comfort Luxury are the fully integrated options allowing walkthrough convenience with all the creature comforts of a five-star apartment.

Anywhere Campers, Bristol, United Kingdom

Anywhere Campers

Right from the start, Anywhere Campers pride themselves on being, and I quote, the only European one-way campervan rental company. The prospect of being able to pick up your motorhome hire vehicle at Bristol airport, say, and drop it off in Venice, Italy, for example, opens a whole new chapter in motorhome vacationing.

And Anywhere Campers don’t stop there, they’ll deliver and pick up your hire vehicle to you, anytime, anywhere, which changes the motorhome rental goalposts somewhat. The only caveat in all of this is that they only have one brand/style of motorhome for hire.

Motorhome Rental

It may not even be a caveat if you’re in the market for an Adria Matrix Campervan. This semi-integrated, low profile motorhome comes as an automatic or manual, complete with a bathroom, kitchen, dining/living area plus all the utensils/bedding you need, so you can just pick up and go.

Included with Standard Rate:

  • 250 kms per day
  • Free transfer
  • Bedding/linen
  • Kitchen/cutlery
  • 24-hour assistance
  • 0-2 years old

Top 10 Attractions from Bristol

The south-west corner of the UK boasts some of the best places to visit in the whole of the country, but before you gallivant off in your motorhome rental to check out the sites we’ve suggested below, visit Bristol itself.

Bristol is one of Britain’s oldest cities, famous (and notorious) for its colonial history, it’s connection to North America and its art and architecture, such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge that spans the Avon Gorge and River Avon. It’s also a great place just to hang out, eat, drink and, maybe, spot the odd pirate!

Bath

So-called because it’s named after the Roman-built Baths, and thereby instantly piquing the interest of history buffs.

A world heritage site since 1987, Bath is equally famous for its 17th-century architecture, honey-coloured sandstone and was home to literary goddess Jane Austen. Plan carefully if you want to see it all.

Cheddar Gorge

It’s not just about the local, world-famous cheese, the limestone gorge is the site of caves in which the oldest human skeleton (about 9000 years old) was discovered.

Cheddar Gorge also claims to be the ‘second greatest natural wonder in Britain’, so get there early to avoid the throngs.

Cardiff

Head north from Bristol, cross the Prince of Wales or Severn Bridge and you’ll enter Wales, go back on yourself and Cardiff awaits.

For a start, that’s a great UK road trip right there and, in recent years, Cardiff has become a must-visit UK destination. Time to discover why.

Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is 787 square miles (2,040 km2) of beautiful rolling hills and meadowland and the third-largest protected landscape in the UK or, to put it another way, a whole bunch of scenic drives that make for a great UK road trip with loads to see en route.

Exmoor National Park

Covering part of Somerset and Devon, Exmoor National Park is a vast area of luscious open moorland that’s best discovered by parking up the trusty motorhome rental and getting there. Why not check out the West Somerset Railway and see it all from a traditional steam train carriage!

Glastonbury and Wells

The historic market town of Glastonbury has been usurped by its festival namesake, which takes place six miles east.

Head the same distance north and you’ll hit Wells, which is just as pretty and similarly stepped in history. You could do worse than spend your vacation bouncing between Glastonbury and Wells.

Stonehenge

Could there be a more famous historic location in the UK than Stonehenge? Yet the mythology that we associate with these monoliths is very much a product of 18th-century poets and artists.

However, the mystery surrounding their origins still inspires tourists the world over and, for that reason, plan your timing!

Tyntesfield

If you’re the type that likes Victorian Gothic Revival buildings and the occasional film location (the BBC filmed Sherlock here, more on him later) then Tyntesfield is the perfect, quintessentially English, day out.

You don’t need to book in advance, but during high season it can get a tad busy.

Pembrokeshire

Located on the western-most point of Wales, the drive from Bristol to Pembrokeshire may be the best scenic drive on this list.

Once there, there are miles of unspoilt coastline to explore in your motorhome rental with dozens of places to just stop and take it all in, whatever the weather.

Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor is probably best known as the setting of Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles; fans can even download a location tour of the top sites.

For the rest of us, it’s a beautiful place to forget the self-drive schedule and enjoy its unique, eerie, atmosphere…

Best Campgrounds, Campervan & RV Parks near Bristol

Campgrounds aren’t just about finding a place to park up your motorhome rental, re-charge batteries, dump the grey and black water and so on, apart from anything else they are excellent sources of local knowledge, little portals leading to information that you won’t find in any guidebooks.

But what makes them a vital part of your motorhome holiday is that they are safe places to unwind, where the kids can let off steam, where you can cook and eat without having to worry about parking regulations. Here are four of the best campgrounds and RV Parks near Bristol.

Ashe Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Thornfalcon, Taunton TA3 5NW, United Kingdom

Remember the West Somerset Railway mentioned above? Ashe Farm Caravan and Camping Site is close by and its set-in beautiful meadowland with electric hook-ups and dumping stations on hand too. For the kids, there’s a little playground and plenty of countryside for all the family to explore.

Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park

Ham Lane, Bishop Sutton, Bristol BS39 5TZ, United Kingdom

No playgrounds at Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park, this is an adult-only site that claims, among other accolades, to be the only five-star touring caravan park in Bath and NE Somerset, and it’s been voted the UK’s best Adult only caravan park from 2009 to 2019.

Brook Lodge Farm Camping & Caravan Park

Redhill, Bristol BS40 5RB, United Kingdom

More award-winning stuff at Brook Lodge Farm Camping and Caravan Park, five acres of gorgeous countryside near the Mendip Hills (and only 15 mins from Bristol) with both grass and hard pitches, all with electric hookups, for your campervan, motorhome and RV rental. Kids are welcome too.

Haldon Forest Holiday Park

Clapham, Exeter EX6 7YG, United Kingdom

Both the grass and hard standing pitches come with electric hookups, at Haldon Forest Holiday Park, so that’s the motorhome rental sorted while you get on with exploring the 3,500 acre woodland in the nearby Haldon Hills, which has loads of great activities for adults and kids alike, including tree-top treks.
