Estonia Campervan Hire Holiday: Pleasant Days
Estonia is a small, northern European country sandwiched between the Gulf of Finland, the Baltic Sea, Latvia, and Russia. It has a humid continental climate with pleasant summers, but cold winters. Start an Estonia campervan hire holiday from the RV or motorhome rental depot in Tallinn, the largest and capital city. This is a pleasant place to stop over that has emerged from Soviet control.

Recreational Stopover in Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn is well worth spending a few days viewing spectacular historic sites including Toompea Castle. Some of the mediaeval cathedrals and watchtowers provide great views across an ancient city. Try dining al fresco in the main square. If you prefer your own space, there are quiet café courtyards down side streets, which will stretch your euros successfully.
There is a darker side to Estonia history down at the waterfront, with a concrete relic dating from the 1980 Moscow Olympics. After that, you can take your pick between an abandoned political prison. Or the colourfully gracious Kadriorg Palace, where you can imagine you arrived in a stagecoach with your king or queen by your side.
Take a Pleasant Drive to Narva
Narva, 210 kilometres (130 miles) away is the third largest city right on the Russian border. The Narva River has attracted human settlement for 2,600 years. So there is a banquet of pre and mediaeval history to take in. Do remember to park your motorhome at Jagala Waterfall on the way through. This is one of the biggest we have seen, at 8 meters high and 50 meters wide in full flood.
There is a regular international train service from Narva into Russia, if your program and visa allow it. The railway line leads via St Petersburg all the way to Moscow if you want to travel that far. You can safely park your RV or campervan rental at Narva station; and travel in style across the border so you can say you have been there.
The Final Step in Our Journey: Tartu
The Puhtitsa Convent nestles peacefully in the legendary region of Russian old believers; on the way to Tartu 180 kilometres (110 miles) distant. The place is spiritual home to descendants of orthodox Christians who fled Russia; and you can still see their little wooden cabins lining the streets. Do snack on their freshly cooked lake fish. It beats fast food hands down.
Tartu is the intellectual heart of Estonia, and boasts a new national museum with unusual architectural features. There are a variety of interesting religious buildings, standing cheek to jowl with newer ones built after the devastation of World War II.
The trip back to Tallinn should take less than three hours, as it is a similar distance to the first two legs of our journey. You can return your motorhome rental in the city, or at the comfortable, laid back international airport. Friendly informality is at the heart of Estonia culture. You will be glad your experienced it, first hand, in an Estonia campervan hire holiday.
